Media Release 14 May 2008 - The Banking Association South Africa releases an overview of the payments environment

The Banking Association South Africa today released a document providing a high level overview of the payments environment.

The document is aimed at promoting a general understanding of the core features, characteristics and functionality of different payment related concepts. It also collates some broad-based concepts that are common amongst banks for payment streams that are available in the interoperable (interbank) domain.

The content of the document is intended to be high level and general in nature and can be used as a reference to educate parties interested in the functioning of the payment system. It is important to note that individual banks do not necessarily offer all payment streams and / or transaction types outlined in this document, as this is their competitive right.
