GLOBAL MONEY WEEK

THEME: ‘Take Part. Save Smart!’

1. WHAT

Global Money Week (GMW) is a money awareness celebration whose goal is to teach children and youth about money, saving, creating livelihoods, gaining employment and becoming an entrepreneur through fun and interactive activities. GMW takes place annually, during the second week of March. The events are organized by schools, universities, government ministries, central banks, financial institutions, members of the civil society and youth worldwide.

GMW is initiated and co-ordinated by Child and Youth Finance International (CYFI) and is celebrating its 5thAnniversary this year!

The outreach to date is as follows:

  • 2015 – 5.6 million children & youth, 124 countries, 962 organizations, over 3000 activities;
  • 2014 – 3 million children & youth, 118 countries, 490 organizations, over 2000 activities;
  • 2013 – 1 million children & youth, 80 countries, 400 organizations;
  • 2012 – 33 000 children & youth, 21 countries (Child Finance Day/Week).

2. WHEN

Worldwide from Monday, 14 – Sunday, 20 March 2016

3. WHERE

Globally – with many events, activities, projects, launches and competitions taking place in over 100 countries. The Global Money Week Toolkit 2016 is available in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Portuguese and Arabic.

4. WHO

Anybody. Anywhere. Anytime.

Whether you are a student, undergraduate or postgraduate or work in an educational institutions, financial authority, central bank, stock exchange, NGO, government institution feel free to invite your friends to join with you.

5. WHY

GMW wants to make sure that the opinions of the next generation are heard so that the decision makers of tomorrow may take active part in the policy discussions of today.

6. HOW

The Banking Association South Africa 2016 activation is geared towards university students and will be held on Tuesday, 15 March 2016 at the Wits Senate Room 17h00–19h00. RSVP’s can be sent through to Thami Mofokeng on thamim@banking.org.za.
